Year 1 2026-2027
Welcome to Porthpean Class (Year One). WeĀ are really looking forward to the year ahead and hope you are too. It has been lovely to meet you all this week and all of the children too!
Miss Warn and Mrs Robins are the class teachers. Miss Warn will be your teacher on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Robins will be your teacher on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Woodhead, Mrs Oā Dwyer and Miss Searle will also be supporting in class.
The children start their day at 8:30am and doors remain open until 8:45am. There is a lot of important learning which happens before 9am so please be on time. Ā The end of the school day is 3:15-3:30pm. Please drop off and collect from the Year One classroom.
Tapestry
We will continue to use Tapestry in Year 1. There will not be as many observations recorded as last year, as the majority of the childrenās learning will now be recorded in books. However, Tapestry will still be used as an important communication tool and will be one of the main ways we get information out to you. Weekly ReadWriteInc videos will be posted on a Friday for you to watch with your child as extra support.
Reading
Children will continue to be taught using the ReadWriteInc reading programme we use at Treverbyn. Children will come home with reading books to share with you at home. It is important that you try to listen to your child read at least 4 times a week. Please write in their reading diaries when they have read at home and make sure they bring their reading books and reading records into school each day for further reading and monitoring. Regular reading practise at home is a key way that children make the expected amount of progress in reading so please give them all the support they need. Do let us know if you need any help with this. We encourage children to read the same book numerous times until they are fluent and show a good understanding of the text.
Snack Time
Free fruit will be given daily as the childrenās snack but they will no longer receive free milk as they did in Reception. You are also welcome to send your child in with their own healthy snack if you prefer.
P.E
Children can come to school wearing their PE kit on a Monday and Wednesday. Please be aware that these days may change every half term (changes will always be communicated). Please ensure that this, along with their water bottle, packed lunch box, coat and school uniform are clearly labelled with their name.
Every Friday, our class bear āErnieā will be choosing a child to go home with for the weekend. If you would like to share photos of your weekends with Ernie then please do post these on Tapestry.
Please keep an eye onĀ Tapestry, the school website and the school Facebook pageĀ for regular updates and news.
If you have any quick questions, don't hesitate to ask us at the door. However, if you would like a longer conversation,Ā please arrange a meeting by phoning the school office on 850503.
Many thanks,
Miss Warn and Mrs Robins
