Year 3 Class Teacher
My name is Miss Blake and my first year teaching in Year 3. I am very excited to learn about different things and topics alongside all of you.
In my spare time I love to be in or by the sea, either surfing or swimming or walking along the beach. I love exercising, especially yoga. I can't wait to do some with you all too. I love listening to music and singing to songs.
Reading and Writing in Year 3...
Your child will be given a set of reading books and a reading diary to bring home to read at least 4x weekly. Please write in their reading diaries when they have read at home. There will also be lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school and at home. The children will be introduced to a system called accelerated reader. This is a computer system where children can take a test on the book they have read to show their understanding. These colour books may be different from their daily reading books but if you have any questions, please ask. We will continue to do some Read, Write, Inc recap of sounds to support our transition into Key Stage 2.
Spelling lists will be sent home every half term, these need to be practised and the children will be tested every Friday morning. Children will be taught how to use these spellings in sentences to build on their existing knowledge of writing. The children will also be learning to join their letters using the cursive style of handwriting. I have attached a copy of the expected style of each letter, so trying this at home will support your child in school.
