Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Charlestown- Year 3

We hope you can find everything you need here!

The school day for us starts at 8.50 and finishes at 3.10. Some of you may be coming to breakfast club, and so we will be seeing some of you slightly earlier at your classroom door.

PE is on a Tuesday afternoon and children will need to come into school in their PE kits.
We collect reading records in every Wednesday to check how many reads the children have completed.

Spelling tests will be every Friday and we will also be introducing times table tests so listen out for this :)

The staff will always be happy to speak to you about any concerns or queries- please contact the office to make an appointment.

Mrs George

Year 3 Class Teacher

Hello !
My name is Mrs George and I love teaching in Year 3. I am very excited to learn about different things and topics with you.
In my spare time I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy walking and spending time by the sea, as well as being active doing exercise classes or playing tennis, football and cricket with my son and husband. I enjoy exploring new places and eating out too. I love listening to music as well.

Reading and Writing in Year 3...

Your child will be given a set of reading books and a reading diary to bring home to read at least 4x weekly. Please write in their reading diaries when they have read at home.  There will also be lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school and at home. The children will be introduced to a system called accelerated reader. This is a computer system where children can take a test on the book they have read to show their understanding. These colour books may be different from their daily reading books but if you have any questions, please ask. We will continue to do some Read, Write, Inc recap of sounds to support our transition into Key Stage 2.

Spelling lists will be sent home every half term, these need to be practised and the children will be tested every Friday morning. Children will be taught how to use these spellings in sentences to build on their existing knowledge of writing. The children will also be learning to join their letters using the cursive style of handwriting. I have attached a copy of the expected style of each letter, so trying this at home will support your child in school.

Maths in Year 3.

We will be building on our knowledge of number in Year 2. A big focus will be weekly times table checks so it is really beneficial for children to be learning their tables at home. Starting with their 2s, 5s and 10s we will then move onto their 3s, 4s and finally their 8s by the end of the year! Learning through songs and practical games is extremely helpful  as well as the TT Rockstars app.
