Welcome to Year 4!

Our classroom door opens at 8:40 every morning. Our pick up time is 3.00 Please follow the one way system (we are the second door along) around the school and allow space for social distancing.

Our P.E. is on a Thursday this term, please can the children wear their P.E kit to school on this day.

This term we are also lucky enough to have a session run by The Cornish Pirates so please could children wear their PE kit to school on a Friday too.

Spellings lists are given at the beginning of each half term (a copy can be found on our class pages) and children are expected to use their home spelling book to neatly practise their spellings at least four times a week. They can choose whether to do this by using the suggested activities on the sheet (stapled to their books), through writing sentences containing the words or on a ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ sheet. We will collect the books in every Thursday ready for our test every Friday morning. Spelling books will be checked every week.

Times tables and 99 club are tested every week in school. The government expectation is that by the end of Year 4 all children will  know all of the times tables and the inverse division facts. Online homework is set using TT Rockstars and Sumdog which children can access through their school wonde logins or directly through the websites/ apps.

Developing a love of reading and sharing a wide range of books is very important to us. To help develop this children are expected to read a minimum of 4 times a week at home. For more able readers, this may mean reading to themselves, then explaining what has happened to an adult and discussing any words or concepts they were unsure of. Please record all reading in their school reading record and signed it. If you are stuck for something to talk about reading prompts can be found at the back of your child's reading record.  In school once they have finished a book children can complete an AR reading quiz which gives them comprehension style questions about the text.  Reading records are checked weekly.

Forest Schools

We are incredibly lucky to have a dedicated time for Forest School every week. We are working in two groups to get the most out the opportunity as possible so you will receive a letter to tell you when your child will have their 6 week block. Forest School is a practice that gives young people the opportunity to develop self-learning through natural play and positive outdoor experience. We take part in Forest School what ever the weather so please can you ensure that your child comes to school with wellies, a waterproof and wearing clothes that are ok to get mucky!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask or arrange a meeting with us.
