The Daily Routine
The Year 5 classroom door will be open for children to be dropped off each morning at 8:50 am. At the end of the day, children can be collected at 3:10pm from the classroom door, unless they have permission to walk home or to the top of the drive..
On arrival, children are expected to put their belongings away tidily and begin their Early Morning Maths activity promptly.
All children will wear their P.E kit to school on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Spellings- These are handed out at the beginning of each half term. Spelling tests are every Friday morning. Children are expected to practise at home daily in their pink spelling books and write out at least 4 spelling definitions by each Thursday.
Reading- Children are asked to read at home to an adult at least 4 times per week- signed and dated by an adult. Children who complete their 4 reads receive a Well Done ticket. Books are able to be changed once completed and are tailored to each child's personal 'ZPD' (Zone of Proximal Development) number. AR quizzes will also assess comprehension once a book is read.
Maths- Children will be set weekly challenges on SumDog to practise their arithmetic skills. There will be termly opportunities to participate in Aspire Sumdog contests to compete against other classes and Aspire schools!
Times tables- Children are encouraged to practise their times tables weekly and they will be tested every Friday morning. Children will aim to achieve their next '99 Club' level ranging from 22 Club to 121 Club and beyond for those who have mastered their times tables!
The time you take with your children outside of school to do these activities is hugely valuable to their education. Thank you for your continued support with this.
It is expected that each child will take full responsibility for their own personal belongings, especially being in Year 5, to support them with transition into Year 6 and later on into secondary school.
To support this, could we please ask that all uniform items (including shoes and coats) are marked with your child's full name.
