Welcome

  • Mr Gareth Walls

    Year 4 Class Teacher

Hello and welcome to Year 4.

This year Mr Walls is the class teacher along with these Teaching Assistants: Mrs Hodkin (all day), Mrs Cock and Mrs Michael (mornings only) and Mrs Healey (10:30 - 3:15)

The classroom door opens at 8:35 every morning and closes at 8:50 when we register the children. All children are expected to arrive within these times and begin their morning task. The doors open at the end of the day at 3:10 and close at 3:25.

P.E. is on a Friday this term although this occasionally changes, so ideally the children need a full P.E. kit (white t-shirt, black shorts, trainers and a change of socks for girls wearing tights) in school every day. Please could you ensure that all items of P.E. kit, including the P.E. bag, are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Swimming will be on a Wednesday so please ensure your child brings their swimming kit into school every Wednesday.

Homework is set weekly and all children are expected to complete their weekly maths, reading and spelling homework within the allocated time.

Spellings lists are given at the beginning of each half term and children are expected to use their home spelling book to neatly practise their spellings at least four times a week. They can choose whether to do this by using the suggested activities on the sheet (stapled to their books), through writing sentences containing the words or on a ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ sheet. Spelling books will be checked every week.

Times tables and 99 club are tested every week. By the end of Year 4 the children will be expected to know all of the times tables.

Children are expected to read a minimum of 4 times a week with an adult. For more able readers, this may mean reading to themselves, then explaining what has happened to an adult and discussing any words or concepts they were unsure of. All reading must be recorded in their school reading record and signed by an adult. Reading records will be checked weekly.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask or arrange a meeting with us.
