Mr Joseph Emery
Year 4 Class Teacher
This year Mr Emery is class teacher with Mrs George joining us on a Wednesday afternoon. Our teaching assistant, who we are lucky enough to have in class all day, is Mrs. Hodkin.
The classroom door opens at 8:35 every morning and closes at 8:50 when we register the children. All children are expected to arrive within these times and begin their morning task. The doors open at the end of the day at 3:10 and close at 3:25.
P.E. is on a Wednesday and Thursday although this occasionally changes, so ideally the children need a full P.E. kit (white t-shirt, black shorts, trainers and a change of socks for girls wearing tights) in school every day. Please could you ensure that all items of P.E. kit, including the P.E. bag, are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Homework is set weekly and all children are expected to complete their weekly maths, reading and spelling homework within the allocated time.
Spellings lists are given at the beginning of each half term and children are expected to use their home spelling book to neatly practise their spellings at least four times a week. They can choose whether to do this by using the suggested activities on the sheet (stapled to their books), through writing sentences containing the words or on a ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ sheet. Spelling books will be checked every week.
Times tables and 99 club are tested every week. By the end of Year 4 the children will be expected to know all of the times tables.
Children are expected to read a minimum of 4 times a week with an adult. For more able readers, this may mean reading to themselves, then explaining what has happened to an adult and discussing any words or concepts they were unsure of. All reading must be recorded in their school reading record and signed by an adult. Reading records will be checked weekly.
There is a termly homework challenge on the website. These are due in by the Monday of the final week of the term.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask or arrange a meeting with us.
