Welcome to Year 1

Autumn 2019
We hope you are all looking forward to this term and the exciting things we have planned.

The classroom door opens at 8:40 every morning and closes at 8:50 when we register the children. All children are expected to arrive within these times and begin their morning task. The doors open at the end of the day at 3:10 and close at 3:20.

Your child will be given a set of reading books to bring home to read. It is important that you try to read at least 4 times a week. Please write in their reading diaries when they have read at home. The children will need to bring their reading books and diaries into school each day for further reading and monitoring. This is vital to children’s progress in reading so please support us and your children with this area.

Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school every day. It is important that all P.E clothing is labelled. P.E kits will be sent home at the end of every half term. Please also ensure water bottles, packed lunch boxes, coats and school uniform are also labelled.

Immersive Curriculum
This term, our topic is based on investigating the question 'What makes home so special?' This topic will be child led and will involve lots of fun and enjoyable activities to support children in their learning. Please see the curriculum newsletter to see an overview of the children’s learning this term.

As stated above, reading is a crucial as part of the children’s daily homework. For the Autumn term, children will take part in weekly handwriting checks where their letter formation will be monitored. Please support your child at home with this. After Christmas, the children will also be given spellings to learn.

Children have the opportunity to buy milk or juice at break times if they wish. The children will need to bring in 50p to do so. Free fruit will be given daily as the children’s snack.

Please keep an eye on the school Twitter page for regular updates and news.

Any questions or problems, don't hesitate to ask us. If you would like to arrange a meeting, then please do so with Mrs Robins or Mrs Cameron at the office.

Many thanks,
