Welcome

  • Miss Lucy Carthew

    Year 1 Class Teacher

Welcome to Year 1.

We hope you are all looking forward to this term and the exciting things we have planned.

Reading
Your child will be given a set of reading books to bring home to read. It is important that you try to read at least 4 times a week. Please write in their reading diaries when they have read at home. The children will need to bring their reading books and diaries into school each day for further reading and monitoring. This is vital to children’s progress in reading so please support us and your children with this area.

P.E
Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school every day. It is important that all P.E clothing is labelled. P.E kits will be sent home at the end of every half term. Please also ensure water bottles, packed lunch boxes, coats and school uniform are also labelled.

Immersive Curriculum
This term, our topic is based on celebrations, investigating the question 'How does the world celebrate?' This topic will be child led and will involve lots of fun and enjoyable activities to support children in their learning. Please see the curriculum newsletter to see an overview of the children’s learning this term.

Homework
On the curriculum newsletter, you will find a homework project to complete over the term. Please bring this in once finished, so we can put it on display. As stated above, reading is also crucial as part of the children’s daily homework. After Christmas, the children will also be given spellings to learn.

Juice/milk
Children have the opportunity to buy milk or juice at break times if they wish. The children will need to bring in 30p to do so. Free fruit will be given daily as the children’s snack.

Please keep an eye on the school Twitter page for regular updates and news.

Any questions or problems, don't hesitate to ask us. If you would like to arrange a meeting, then please do so with Miss Carthew or at the office.

Many thanks,
Miss Carthew (Teacher)
